Trade #4 – Partially Traded

Today I sold one of the two cabinets for $300 cash.

Ok, ok! I know what you're thinking. That's NOT a trade! I though a lot about it, and wondered whether this goes against my whole trading experiment. Then I realized, I am trading up until I get to $10,000. Which means I plan to sell my final item for at least that much money in cash. So why not take some cash along the way?! After all, I still have a second cabinet to trade!

Introducing: The Piggy Bank!

The Piggy BankIf you look to the right of the website you will see this new feature--------------->

From now on, every time cash is part of a trade it will be placed in The Piggy Bank. I think this is a cool concept that adds a bit or originality to my trading experiment. What do you think?

Trade #4 – I’m Offering

Marshall Half Stack SpeakersAfter some time away from my experiment in trading, I am back and trading away. I finally had some time to get the cabinets in a room and photograph them. The Craigslist ad has been posted and I am now patiently awaiting offers.

As soon as I start hearing offers I will post to the blog and let you all know. I have a feeling these speaker cabinets might fetch some pretty cool offers.

I’m still here!

I've been getting e-mails from readers asking for updates on my trading. It's exciting to see that there are people following Craigstrade from all around the globe. The reason I haven't been updating the site is because I've actually been really busy for the last few months. I recently started a new web design business and have been involved with a lot of projects that have kept me sidetracked.

Trading Update:

I am currently in possession of the 2 Marshall speaker cabinets. I will be taking pictures of them and posting an ad on Craigslist by next week. I will update the site as soon as the ad is posted.

Follow me on Twitter (@Craigstrade) so you don't miss any action!

Trade like a Rock Star!

Marshall Half Stack Speakers

Update 7:11 PM:

This trade is happening tonight! I'll post another update once it's official.

Original Post:

I'm back from hiatus. Although I was really busy and didn't have the time to be proactive with the trading, I probably should have at least kept this blog interesting for those who were following. Believe it or not, I received a few emails from people asking for me to update them on the status of my trading. That totally caught me off guard! Kudos to you guys, and thanks for being that interested!

Anyway, let me tell you all where I'm at currently with the trading. I'm still with the laptop from trade #3. At the last update I had been offered an engine-less jet ski, xbox's, wii's, and a very big expensive car jack. Today I was offered two Marshall Stack speaker cabinets!

Here's a link to see the specs on these cabinets. Marshall Mode Four Cabinets

I'd like to know what you think of this trade. Take this poll quick and help me out.

Should I make the trade?

Right trade? Wrong trade?

Did I make my first bad move in trading for this laptop?

Well, it's definitely not as easy to get rid of as the iPhone or PS3 was, but I still don't think it was a bad trade. After all, it was one of the best offers that was made for the PS3. The one thing that I do have to keep in mind is that the longer I have this laptop, the more trade value it will lose. The mobile computing industry is fast paced, and if this laptop wasn't obsolete already, it will be very soon. So, I'll have to try to move is very soon.

The Key: Patience & Proactivity

I think the key here is going to be not to jump at any offers to quick, and also to go out and actively seek trades. The first two items I traded were hot consumer products with high demand. People jumped at them. The laptop is just another laptop, not much different than any other, and also a year old. With less demand, the key here is going to be to find the right person. I'll have to look for somebody who is in desperate need of a laptop. Maybe a student with no cash, and only items to trade. Maybe a strapped worker starting a new job. Or maybe it's a fledgling entrepreneur looking to minimize expenses in the early stages of a business.

This is where Craigstrade really begins.
